Indianapolis Indians News Release

DES MOINES, IOWA - A towering two-run homer off the bat of Anthony Alford plated the only runs of the game on Thursday night as the Indianapolis Indians beat the Iowa Cubs, 2-0. It was the Indians second shutout of the season, both of which have come at Iowa.

With the game locked in a scoreless battle through five innings, Dustin Fowler led off the frame with a pinch-hit double in his first at-bat back from the injured list. Alford, the Indians (38-42) team leader with 12 home runs, launched a long, high fly ball out over the suites in left field to take the lead. Matt Swarmer (L, 1-5) surrendered the home run.

The combined shutout by four Indians pitchers was the team's first since May 4, Opening Night, at Iowa. Cam Vieaux (W, 2-1) allowed just three hits in 5.0 scoreless innings of work and Tyler Bashlor (S, 4) shut down the I-Cubs (35-44) with the game-tying runner at the plate in the ninth.

Indianapolis and Iowa will face off again on Friday night at 8:08 PM ET. RHP James Marvel (3-3, 5.47) will face off against RHP Mike Hauschild (0-4, 6.35).
