MOOSIC, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell to the Worcester Red Sox 5-3 in an 11-inning contest on Thursday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders are now 4-5 in extra-inning games this season.

Deivi Garcia turned in a solid start for the RailRiders, allowing only one earned run on three hits in 4.1 innings of work. He struck out seven and walked four in the outing.

The RailRiders took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Donny Sands brought in Andrew Velazquez with an RBI single against former RailRider Raynel Espinal.

Worcester struck back with a run in the third against Garcia, but SWB responded with a tally in the bottom half of the inning. Cristian Perez led off with a double and scored two batters later on a Velazquez RBI single.

The Red Sox tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth when Jeter Downs drew a bases-loaded walk against Nick Green. Following 2.2 innings of relief from Green, Kevin Gedea made his Triple-A debut and turned in 3.0 perfect frames, striking out three.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre put the go-ahead run in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings, but could not score and the game eventually went into extra frames.

Neither team scored in the 10th, with Gadea striking out two with a runner on third in the top of the frame. However, the WooSox broke through with three runs in the top of the 11th against Greg Weissert. The RailRiders brought in a run on a Sands RBI single in the bottom of the frame, but that was all they could muster against Seth Blair, who closed out the Worcester win.

POSTGAME NOTES: The RailRiders struck out 18 times in the game, tying a franchise record set on April 28, 2014 against the Durham Bulls.

SWB continues its series with Worcester on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. LHP Josh Maciejewski (0-1, 6.75) gets the start for the RailRiders, while the WooSox have not announced a starter.
