Indianapolis Indians News Release
COLUMBUS, OHIO - Ryan Lavarnway belted a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning as the Indianapolis Indians rallied from a 2-1 deficit and stunned the Columbus Clippers on Monday night for the 4-2 victory. The comeback was Indy's fourth such win in just the last four days.
Christopher Bostick began the rally with a single and advanced to third base on Jacob Stallings' double. Kevin Kramer tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left, and it set the stage for Lavarnway. He then smashed a home run down the right-field line to give Indianapolis (59-48) its first lead of the game.
Columbus (55-51) had the only productive inning off Tribe starter J.T. Brubaker in the second. Johnny Field began the rally with a two-out double, and then scored on a single by Adam Rosales. Connor Marabell followed with a single, but the inning ended when right fielder Jerrick Suiter threw out Rosales at the plate trying to score.
Indy leveled the score in the top of the third. Pablo Reyes clubbed a one-out home run over the left-center field wall. It was Reyes' sixth home run since joining the Tribe.
Yandy Diaz clubbed a home run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to briefly tie the game and set the stage for the Tribe's comeback.
Brubaker tossed a gem and exited in a 1-1 game. He fanned eight batters in seven frames. Michael Feliz (1-0) made his Indianapolis debut and earned the win after two innings of work.
Ben Taylor (7-2) took the loss and the Indians handed him his third blown save of the season.
The pivotal road trip continues tomorrow night in Columbus, first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The Indians return home on Tuesday, August 7.
