Robert Stephenson Named International League Pitcher of the Week, July 23-29

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The International League announced today that Louisville Bats right-handed starting pitcher Robert Stephenson has won the IL Pitcher of the Week award for the week of July 23-29. Stephenson joins right-handed relief pitcher Kevin Quackenbush (6/25-7/1) as Louisville pitchers to win the weekly honor this season.

In 2 starts last week, Stephenson went 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA (2er/14.0ip), giving up a combined 3 hits, one home run, with 7 walks and 8 strikeouts. In his July 24 start vs. Buffalo, he threw a seven-inning complete game shutout in game one of a doubleheader, the first complete game shutout by a Louisville pitcher since right-hander Homer Bailey in game one of a doubleheader on May 2, 2009, also vs. Buffalo.

For the season, Stephenson is 10-6 with a 3.03 ERA (36er/107.0ip) in 19 starts. He's allowed 73 hits, 12 home runs, walking 54 and striking out 122. His 10 wins are tied for the league lead, and his 122 strikeouts are second-most in the league. He's allowed batters to hit just .190 against him, ranking second in the league. His 3.06 ERA ranks sixth.

In 4 July starts, Stephenson is 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA (4er/27.0ip), giving up 11 hits, one home run, walking 10 and striking out 25. All four of his starts in the month have been quality starts.

It's the second time that Stephenson has won IL Pitcher of the Week honors, previously winning the award for Louisville from July 27 - August 2, 2015.
