Game One

June 24: A steady downpour at first pitch did not effect the Rochester offense in the first inning as they jumped out to an early lead. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, Scranton starting pitcher Chance Adams, allowed a solo home run to Jake Cave to give the Wings a 1-0 lead.

Following the top of the second inning, a 17 minute rain delay put the game on pause. Wynston Sawyer was replaced by Cameron Rupp during his at-bat in the bottom of the second following an apparent injury.

The RailRiders took a 3-1 lead in the third after Red Wings starter Dietrich Enns, surrendered a three-run home run to Tyler Austin following a pair of base hits to start the inning.

Enns allowed another run in the top of the fourth after surrendering back-to-back doubles, giving Scranton a 4-1 lead.

The game entered another delay at 2:20 p.m. and was called at 3:05 p.m. to be completed during a double-header on July 30.

July 30: the game resumed in the bottom of the fourth inning with Tyler Duffey starting as the pitcher for the Red Wings and Raynel Espinal starting as the pitcher for the RailRiders.

It did not take long for the Wings to score as Willians Astudillo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-2. It was the ninth homer of the season for Astudillo.

Espinal was replaced in the bottom of the seventh by Joe Harvey. Espinal finished with 3.0 innings thrown, allowed one hit, one earned run, one walk and had four strikeouts. Espinal threw 43 pitches, 28 for strikes.

Luke Bard replaced Duffey in the top of the ninth inning. Duffey finished with 4.0 innings thrown, allowed one hit, one walk and had three strikeouts. Duffey threw 52 pitches, 39 for strikes.

The Wings scored in the bottom of the ninth after a pinch-hit RBI double from Edgar Corcino, scoring Kennys Vargas, making the score 4-3 RailRiders. Next batter, Gregorio Petit, hit a single to left field, Corcino headed home and was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

The RailRiders were held hitless through the last four innings. The RailRiders out-hit the Red Wings 6 to 5.

Game Two:

A pitcher's duel unfolded in game two as both teams held their opponents to no runs through the first seven innings and the game went into extras.

The RailRiders threatened in the top of the third after a one out triple. Red Wings starting pitcher Kohl Stewart worked out of the jam to end the inning by retiring the next two batters.

The Red Wings were held hitless through the first six innings against RailRiders starting pitcher Chance Adams. A single by Gregorio Petit in the bottom of the sixth inning ended the no-hit bid.

The RailRiders threatened to score in the top of the seventh with two on and two outs. Stewart retired the next batter to end the inning.

Stewart was relieved in the top of the eighth inning by Nick Anderson. Stewart finished with 7.0 innings thrown, allowed three hits, one walk and had four strikeouts. Stewart threw 98 pitches, 59 for strikes.

Adams took the mound in the bottom of the eighth with placed runner Taylor Motter at second. Andy Wilkins moved Motter to third with a groundout; pinch-hitter Willians Astudillo and Edgar Corcino were both walked intentionally to bring up pinch-hitter Jeremy Hazelbaker with the bases loaded. Adams went to a full count before Hazelbaker lined a hit to right field to secure the win.

The 'Riders out-hit the Wings 3-2.

NOTES: RailRiders 1B/OF Tyler Austin was traded to the Twins organization midway through game one of the double-header, part of a trade involving Twins pitcher Lance Lynn going to the Yankees.

2001 - 7,236 fans showed up at Frontier Field to celebrate 100 years of minor league baseball The day was highlighted by former Red Wings greats such as Paul Blair and Frank Robinson signing autographs for fans.

2006 - B.J. Upton scored on a passed ball with two outs in the eighth inning, and the Durham Bulls beat the Red Wings 3-2 Sunday in Durham...Chris Heintz and Kevin West drove in the Rochester runs with sacrifice flies.

THIS DAY IN INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE HISTORY

1921 - The perennial second-division Syracuse club hires Frank J. Shaughnessy as a player/manager for the struggling Stars. It is the beginning of a 40-year tenure for "Shag" in the International League. In 1925 he was released by Syracuse after five losing seasons. Shag went on to manage at Providence, Reading, and Montreal, where he also served as General Manager. He is best remembered for introducing the "Shaughnessy Playoffs" to the IL in 1933, forever changing the way the League determined its champion. In 1937 he relinquished his managerial reins in Montreal and was elected President of the International League. He served in that role until he retired following the 1960 season, having established a length of stability unmatched by any other Minor League.
