Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
A two-run home run by Joey Meneses (18) in the top of the first inning was all the offense the Pigs needed in their 2-0 victory against the Bisons at Coca-Cola Field. Tom Eshelman (2-9) earned his first win since April 13th tossing seven scoreless innings.
The offense was limited to just three hits the ball game but was backed by the solid pitching. Meneses delivered the big blow with two-run home run in the top of the first inning to account for the only runs in the game.
Dean Anna went 1-4 and extended his hitting streak to team high 18 games. Since the streak began back on July 6th, Anna is batting .290 with eight RBIs. Scott Kingery holds the franchise record with a 23-game hitting streak.
Eshelman tossed seven-shutout innings against the Bisons while allowing just four hits. He struck out four and only walked on in the start. In his last nine starts, Eshelman has posted a 3.38 ERA (53.1/20).
Hector Neris struck out two in his inning of relief and earned the hold for the Pigs. Neris has a 1.93 ERA in 14 games for Lehigh Valley since being optioned. Pedro Beato (27) shut the door in the ninth to close out the win for the IronPigs.
The Bisons and IronPigs continue their five game series tomorrow night at 7:05. Ranger Suarez returns to the hill for the Pigs against Nick Tepesch.
The IronPigs return home August 3rd for a three game series against the Syracuse Chiefs. Stick around after the game on Friday for Aerosmith Fireworks presented by Coors Light.
