Columbus Clippers News Release

Though the Columbus Clippers limped into the series finale against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs today at Coca-Cola Park, having lost both games in a double-header yesterday, they woke up the bats early to win 14-8.

Adam Rosales had a huge day at the plate for Columbus, going 4-for-4 with two homeruns and six RBIs.

After putting up five runs to kick off game one yesterday, the Clippers did the same thing in the second inning of today's series finale.

Connor Marabell started the scoring against IronPigs' starter Enyel De Los Santos with an RBI groundout for a 1-0 lead. Yandy Diaz then came through with a two-run double to make it 3-0. The next batter, Drew Maggi, singled in Diaz, and proceeded to swipe second and advance to third when the throw down went into center before being balked home by De Los Santos, making it 5-0.

Ryan Merritt kept the IronPigs off the board in three perfect innings of work in the start for Columbus. He struck out one.

Stepehen Fife replaced Merritt in the fourth and ran into a bit of trouble as he gave up two runs. The first came on a Joey Meneses fielder's choice, while the second came on another fielder's choice off the bat of Collin Cowgill.

The Clippers added to their 5-2 lead in the fifth, taking advantage of a Lehigh Valley mistake in center. With Brandon Branes on second base, Yu Chang lifted a shallow fly into the outfield that shortstop Danny Espinosa deflected, allowing Barnes to score.

Tom Windle replaced De Los Santos after that and was rudely welcomed to the game by Adam Rosales, who crushed a three-run homerun to left to provide the Clippers with a 9-2 advantage.

Columbus kept it up in the sixth, loading the bases for Johnny Field, who walked to make it 10-2. Adam Rosales then dunked in a two-run double to continue the rout, putting his team ahead 12-2.

Lehigh Valley got to Fife again, plating a pair in the bottom of the sixth. Maneses put himself in scoring position with a double off the center field wall, which Dylan Cozens followed with a double of his own to score him. After that, Zach Green singled in Cozens to pull closer at 12-4.

The Clippers loaded the bases again in the seventh, this time for Chang who made it 13-4 with a sacrifice fly.

They added another in the eighth when Adam Rosales drilled his second homerun of the day, a solo shot to push the Columbus lead to 14-4.

Cowgill singled in another Lehigh Valley run off Fife in the home half of the eighth to cancel out the Rosales homer. After that, Nick Rickles singled in two more to make it 14-7.

Cozens scored one more for the IronPigs with a single in the bottom of the ninth, but they'd fall 14-8.

The Clippers will head home to host the Indianapolis Indians tomorrow at Huntington Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
