Hens Notes

Shutting down the Tides to end road week: Artie Lewicki went seven strong innings Sunday in Norfolk, allowing just one hit, one walk and struck out nine to pace Toledo to a week ending 3-0 win. Zac Houston continues to thrive collecting his fifth save of the season Sunday with a pair of strikeouts and has lowered his ERA to 1.61. The shutout was the tenth thrown by Mud Hens pitching this season. The Mud Hens finished the final South road trip 2-4 thanks to a huge first inning Friday night at Norfolk scoring seven times in a 7-2 rout of the Tides.

Espinal leads defense: A MiLB Gold Glove recipient with Indianapolis in 2017, IF Edwin Espinal leads all qualified first basemen in the IL with a .999 fielding percentage, committing just one error in 81 appearances at first this year. In total, the Mud Hens have surrendered a league-low 52 errors, and their .986 fielding percentage ties the Indianapolis Indians for the league lead.

Stewart loads up to tie for league lead: In Sunday's win, Christin Stewart blasted long ball number 18 which pulled him into to a tie with Dylan Cozens and Mitch Walding from Lehigh Valley for the most in the IL. Stewart hit a homer in each of Toledo's wins this past week. Of his team leading 60 RBIs, 10 have come in the last ten games and he is just three off of the league lead.

Home week ahead inside the division: Toledo has a full week starting Monday night against the Louisville Bats. The Mud Hens have an overall record of 24-24 vs. the three other teams in the IL West with their best mark coming against the Bats (11-8). The Indianapolis Indians will invade the Glass City starting Thursday for four games. Toledo is just 6-11 vs. the first place Indians, including 1-5 at Fifth Third Field.
