Impressive Home Opening Win for the for the Hawks
September 22, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Winterhawks offense was electrifying in front of a home opening crowd of 7,000 Portland fans. The Hawks scored six straight goals as they beat the Americans 6-1. Nine different players recorded at least one point for the Hawks.
2020 NHL Draft prospect Cross Hanas scored what very well could be the WHL goal of the year during the second period. Hanas cradled the puck behind the net and scored a behind-the-net lacrosse style goal on Americans goaltender Beck Warm. It was his second goal of the game and the eventual game-winning goal.
The Winterhawks are home Sunday night at the Moda Center for a 5:00 p.m. game against the Kamloops Blazers.
NOTABLES:
Simon Knak scored his first WHL goal and he finished with three points in his Portland Winterhawks debut.
Fellow European player Jonas Brondberg recorded two assists in his first WHL game.
Center Tyson Kozak recorded his first WHL point with a primary assist on Cross Hanas' eventual game-winning goal.
Recently named captain Johnny Ludvig scored a goal and an assist and tied for a team-high five shots and a plus-3 rating.
