Tri-City Americans News Release

After opening the 2019 WHL season with a 4-2 victory over the Silvertips last night, the Americans traveled to Portland today for the Winterhawks' home opener. Tri-City struggled to find their footing and ultimately fell to the Winterhawks 6-1.

Portland netted six unanswered goals, five even strength, against the Americans through two and a half periods. Rookie Jan Cikhart put the Americans on the board with his first WHL goal at 10:10 third period.

Cikhart was drafted 31st overall by Tri-City in the 2019 CHL Import Draft.

For the second night in a row, Beck Warm started in net for the Americans. The overage goaltender played 33 minutes before being relieved by Talyn Boyko. Warm stopped 14 of 18 shots faced.

Boyko would go on to make 22 saves on 24 shots through the remainder of the game.

Tri-City was outshot 42-18.

The Americans return to the Toyota Center for their home opener two weeks from today.
