Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Florida Everblades came into town boasting the number 2 offense in the league, but it was the Ice Dogs who exploded for 6 goals, 4 of them unanswered, to hand Florida just their second loss of the season.

It appeared early on that the Everblades would continue their early-season dominance in the ECHL, jumping out to a 2-0 lead midway through the 1st period. But Long Beach would storm back, getting 2 goals from Eric Laplante, his 4th and 5th of the season. Again Florida got the lead back with goals from Shaneberger and Anderson but it would end there. The Ice Dogs went on to score 4 unanswered goals, 2 each from Krzysztof Wieckowski and John McNabb, to beat a very skilled Florida team.

It was not only a game with plenty of scoring, but plenty of penalties as well. The teams combined for 134 penalty minutes, including 6 misconducts. Long Beach out-shot Florida, 43-38, the first time this season they have out-shot an opponent. T.J. Aceti, starting in his 3rd straight game, made 34 saves in the win and Florida's Daniel Boisclair was credited with the loss, his first of the season.

The victory pulled the Ice Dogs back into 4th place in the Pacific Division and proved to be a team that can beat anyone. Florida defeated Las Vegas, who currently leads the league in points, the night before in overtime. The Ice Dogs play Las Vegas at home Saturday, but first must take on the Alaska Aces Friday night in a reunion of former WCHL opponents.
