Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENSBORO, NC: John Marks surpassed a very impressive coaching milestone with his 1200th career regular season game behind the bench for the Grrrowl on Thursday evening in Greensboro, NC. unfortunately, this game would be one that is added to the loss column.
For the second consecutive game, the Greenville Grrrowl struck first when rookie Rae Metz scored his second goal of the season with a power-play goal at the 10:08 mark of the first period (assists - Peter Flache; Brad Fraser). The Metz goal was the only score of the first period, as Michel Robinson stopped all 17 shots by the Greensboro Generals.
The Generals matched Greenville's first period goal with a power play goal of their own at 14:09 of the second period off the stick of Tom Reimann (Parrish, Turek), his third of the season. Matt Elich (Fortier) added his second goal of the season at the 7:22 mark to put the Generals in the lead for the fist time. That would be all of the scoring for the second period, and Greensboro went to the locker room with a 2-1 lead.
Tom Reimann (Turek, Bayrack) scored his second power-play goal of the game at the 2:20 mark of the third period, to give the Generals a 3-1 lead. Coming into the game, the Grrrowl had given up only one power-play goal in the season's first five games.
As the final minutes of the game approached, Mike Henderson came through with Greenville's second power-play goal of the night at the 4:53 mark, on an assist from captain Ryan Stewart. However, Greensboro scored an empty net goal at 19:48 to make the final margin 4-2 over the Grrrowl.
Greenville (1-5-0) travels to Columbia on Friday night for a 7:30 start against the Inferno, before making the road trip on Saturday to take on the Florence Pride, a 7:30 game time. Greensboro (5-3-0) will make the drive down I-85 to play the Charlotte Checkers in Cricket Arena on Friday evening.
