Alaska Aces News Release

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Held to just 10 shots after two periods for the second straight game, the Alaska Aces fell 2-1 at the hands of the first-place Las Vegas Wranglers Wednesday night at Orleans Arena.

Alaska found itself shorthanded early and often in the opening 30 minutes, managing just five shots in each of the first two periods and falling behind 1-0 on a power play goal by Jeff Attard just 3:56 into the game. Attard's hard work in front of the net set up the second Las Vegas goal five minutes into the second period, when Ryan Christie scored after a wild scrum.

Aces goaltender Dan Murphy kept his club in the game, however, with several key saves, including two shorthanded breakaways. Alaska finally broke through on a power play goal of its own, as Charles Linglet won a battle in the corner and fed Joe Talbot at 17:27 of the middle frame, slicing the 2-0 deficit in half.

After being outshot 24-10 through the first two periods, the Aces controlled most of the third stanza, outshooting the Wranglers 9-5, but Las Vegas was able to hold on behind ECHL Goaltender of the Month Marc Magliarditti, who survived one last flurry in the closing seconds. Murphy, who was pulled in favor of the extra attacker in the game's final minute, finished with a season-high 27 saves but took the hard-luck loss.

Five of Alaska's seven games this year have been decided by one goal, with the Aces winning two of those contests. Alaska (4-3) has scored a power play goal in each of its first seven contests. The Aces continue their three-game road trip in Long Beach, who rallied to beat Florida 6-4 on Wednesday to up its record to 3-4-1, Friday night at 6:30 p.m. AST and Bakersfield (currently 2-5-1 on the season) Saturday at 6:00 p.m. AST.

All Alaska games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
