Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Wappingers Falls, NY (8/5/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats on Wednesday evening by a score of 2-1 at Dutchess Stadium. With the victory, the Renegades improved their record to 21-23 while the ValleyCats fell to 25-20.

The ValleyCats scored their lone run of the night in the top of the second inning as designated hitter Hector Roa hit a solo home run to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead. The Renegades responded in the bottom of the second inning as Matt Dacey walked and designated hitter Cade Gotta reached on an error to lead off the inning. After both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch, first baseman Nic Wilson drove in Dacey on a RBI sacrifice fly to tie the score at 1-1. Hudson Valley took a 2-1 lead as the next batter, catcher Taylor Hawkins, drove in Gotta on a RBI sacrifice fly.

From the third inning onwards, the pitching was strong for both teams. Renegades starting pitcher Travis Ott (4-3) earned the win as he struck out seven batters in five innings of work, while allowing just one run off five hits.

Tri-City had a chance to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning as left fielder Aaron Mizell hit a one-out triple. But Renegades relief pitcher Reese Karalus struck out Roa and induced first baseman Dexture McCall into a ground out and preserved the 2-1 lead. Karalus tossed two innings out of the bullpen and struck out three.

Brandon Koch pitched the final two innings and picked up his fourth save of the season, including striking out the side in the top of the ninth inning. Harold Arauz (0-3) took the loss for Tri-City as he allowed two unearned runs off three hits in four innings of work.

Notes: The Hudson Valley bullpen kept the Tri-City offense quiet for the entire three-game series. Renegades relievers combined to allow one run off six hits in 12 and a third innings pitched during the series and stuck out 11 batters.

Hudson Valley travels to face the Staten Island Yankees on Thursday, August 6th with first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm. The Renegades host Staten Island at Dutchess Stadium on Friday, August 7th at 7:05pm.
