Auburn Doubledays News Release
MORGANTOWN, WV - Erick Fedde dominated on the mound and the Doubledays hit well at the plate en route to an 8-3 victory over the Black Bears on the road to even up the series at 1-1.
After a quick first inning, the Doubledays got on the board in the second. Rhett Wiseman led off with a single before David Kerian and Ian Sagdal walked to load the bases with nobody out. Wiseman and Kerian then scored on an 2-run single into center off the bat of Melvin Rodriguez. Randy Encarnacion then sacrificed Sagdal to third and Rodriguez with a sac bunt. Sagdal later scored on a Jorge Tillero single while Rodriguez scored on a groundout from Victor Robles. After one and a half, the Doubledays led 4-0.
In the bottom of the third the Black Bears finally responded. Christian Kelley singled with one out and then advanced to second when Kelvin Gutierrez committed an error off a Logan Ratledge grounder that might have ended the frame. Both Kelley and Ratledge both came around to score on an RBI double from Kevin Kramer into left to put the score at 4-2.
The fourth and fifth innings went by quickly with very little offense until both teams scored in the sixth. With one out and nobody on, Ian Sagdal pulled an inside fastball down the right field line that bounced off the foul pole for his first professional homer and Auburn led 5-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Ryan Nagle reached on an error and later came around to score on an RBI single by Kelley. After six, the Doubledays led 5-3.
Two innings later in the seventh, the Doubledays added some insurance. Kerian and Sagdal led off with back-to-back walks and moved 90 feet over on Rodriguez's sacrifice bunt. Both then came around to score when Randy Encarnacion doubled into left. Encarnacion stole third and scored when Victor Robles swung at a dropped third strike wild pitch and the Doubledays took an 8-3 lead.
Mariano Rivera III came out of the bullpen in the ninth and gave up one double, but that's it as the Doubledays beat the Black Bears 8-3.
Erick Fedde earned his fourth win of the year with the following line: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, and 3 K's. Seth McGarry fell to 1-2 with the loss after the following line: 5 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, and 6 K's. All of the hits, runs, and walks he gave up came in Auburn's four-run second.
