-SPIKES CONTINUE ROAD TRIP AGAINST MUCKDOGS: After a rainout last night, the Spikes continue their 10th Season tonight with a doubleheader to finish a three-game series at the Batavia Muckdogs. The matchups at Dwyer Stadium are part of a six-game road swing for the Spikes as they visit Batavia and West Virginia in Pinckney Division play. State College took two of the first three meetings this season against the Muckdogs from July 18-20, all at Medlar FIeld at Lubrano Park. The Spikes are still in the midst of a packed New York-Penn League Wild Card race. All-time, State College holds a 48-46 edge against Batavia, with a 22-23 mark at Dwyer Stadium.
-LAST GAME: Leobaldo Pina drove in four runs as he came just a triple shy of the cycle, and Jorge Rodriguez delivered seven quality innings on the mound as the Spikes notched their fourth straight road win with a 9-1 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs on Monday night at Dwyer Stadium. Pina doubled in the first, smashed a two-run homer in the fifth, and singled in the seventh. The Spikes shortstop came up in the eighth with a chance to become the second player in franchise history to hit for the cycle, but flied out to left. Rodriguez kept the Muckdogs at bay with a seven-inning gem, allowing just one unearned run on five hits and a walk. The righty also struck out six batters, and extended a streak of 23 consecutive innings on the road without allowing an earned run in the win. Orlando Olivera also homered for the Spikes, while Josh Swirchak collected three hits on the night and drove in a pair of runs.
-MARTINEZ, PEREZ GET THE STARTS FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Dailyn Martinez gets the ball for State College tonight in Game One. Martinez took the loss against Vermont in his last outing on Wednesday despite a six-inning quality start. The Santiago, Dominican Republic native allowed three runs, but just one earned run, on eight hits and a hit batsman while striking out four. Right-hander Juan Perez gets the start in the second game, and has allowed just one run over his last 16 innings. Perez was the New York-Penn League Pitcher of the Week after striking out 10 Batavia batters to tie a Spikes record on July 18 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
-MUCKDOGS SEND LILEK, SQUIER TO MOUND: Batavia will go with left-hander Brett Lilek on the hill in tonight's first game. Lilek, the Marlins' second-round draft pick out of Arizona State this year, faced the Spikes on July 18 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and took the loss after yielding five runs on seven hits, including an Orlando Olivera home run, over 3 1/3 innings. The South Holland, IL native was part of a combined perfect game for Batavia on June 24 against Mahoning Valley in his pro debut. Left-hander Scott Squier gets his third start and ninth appearance for Batavia in the nightcap. Squier has not taken a loss despite his 5.70 ERA, and allowed three runs over 3 2/3 innings at State College on July 18.
-GRAYSON DELIVERING BIG NUMBERS: Casey Grayson is still near the top of several leaderboards in the New York-Penn League. The University of Houston product is second in the NYPL batting race with a .326 average. Grayson's .425 on-base percentage is third in the league, and he occupies spots in the NYPL's top five in hits (4th, 46), runs batted in (4th, 26) and walks (T-2nd, 25). The Cypress, TX native has also reached base in every home game he has played this season, a 23-game string.
-SPIKE MARKS: Jhohan Acevedo became the seventh Spikes player with two triples in the same game on Saturday...Danny Martin was the last to accomplish the feat on June 21 of this year...Ian McKinney earned promotion to Single-A Peoria Monday after earning the win on Sunday...McKinney went 4-2 with a 2.76 ERA in eight starts...Mike Pritchard is tied for the league lead in runs scored with 30 on the season...Leobaldo Pina is tied for the league lead in hits with 47...Four different Spikes pitchers - McKinney, Preez, Jorge Rodriguez and Landon Beck - are in the top ten in the league in ERA...The Spikes are fifth in the league in team ERA with a 3.33 mark
