LOWELL, M.A. - August 5th, 2015 - It was another night to forget for the Brooklyn Cyclones as they were hammered by the Lowell Spinners 12-0 on Wednesday evening. RHP Gaby Almonte (5-3) allowed a franchise-record 10 runs, nine earned, in 3.0 innings of work. The Cyclones also tied a franchise record with five errors and had two position players, Pedro Perez and Zach Mathieu, toss scoreless innings of relief.

While Brooklyn bats managed just four hits throughout the entire rubber game, the Spinners came out strong from the start. A leadoff single followed by a stolen base and a throwing error by Cyclones catcher Manuel Hilario put a Lowell runner on third to start the first. A double to center field would get the first run of the game on the board and Josh Ockimey continued the offensive fire with a two-run home run to give the Spinners a 3-0 lead.

The second began with Aneudis Peralta reaching on a throwing error by shortstop Branden Kaupe. Peralta then stole with Jhon Nunez batting, who then walked to put runners on first and second. The next Lowell batter grounded into a force out and Peralta scored, pushing the Spinners' lead to 4-0.

Lowell continued to further their lead in the third. Andrew Benintendi hit a leadoff single and stole second with Victor Acosta batting. Almonte sent Acosta walking, and the pair of runners each safely stole, putting runners on second and third. A double then brought both Spinners home as Lowell advanced to a 6-0 lead.

The Spinners offense completely lit up the scoreboard in the fourth. Almonte walked the leadoff batter, who advanced to third after a line drive single to center field. Another single would score one for Lowell and put runners on first and second. A pair of back-to-back singles notched two more runs for the Spinners and served as Almonte's ticket off the mound, as right-hander Johnny Magliozzi came in from the bullpen for relief. Following a fielder's choice by Hilario and a single to right field, the Spinners tallied two more to polish off a five-run inning.

Lowell bats couldn't be stopped through the fifth. After the leadoff batter reached on a throwing error by Kaupe, a single put runners at the corners with zero outs. A ground ball double play allowed the Spinners to score one more run, advancing to 12-0.

After Brooklyn's southpaw P.J. Conlon made an appearance for one inning, the Cyclones had two position players pitch in one game for the first time in team history. Pedro Perez and Zach Mathieu threw an inning each and held the Spinners scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Brooklyn's loss keeps the team at second place in league standings just behind the Staten Island Yankees. The Cyclones look for a fresh start as they venture up to Vermont for a three-game set against the Lake Monsters. RHP Andrew Church (1-2) will take the mound for Brooklyn to kickoff the series. The Cyclones, who are 2-1 against Vermont this season from a set played at home, look to rebound from tonight's shutout and come out strong Thursday night.
