
Cutters Drop Series to Mahoning Valley

Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the first inning against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers Wednesday night but would drop an 8-6 decision at Eastwood Field. Williamsport scored a run in each of the first four innings but found themselves behind on the scoreboard after two innings. The Cutters remain in first place in the Pinckney Division and also hold onto the best record in the New York Penn League.
The Crosscutters offense got into gear early on against Scrappers starter Leandro Linares by scoring a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. Zach Coppola lead off the game with a single and would advance to third base on back to back wild pitches. Coppola would score on an error by the Scrappers shortstop. Josh Tobias would also score on an RBI ground out from Gregori Rivero.
Williamsport would see the game get tied 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning and then fall behind 7-3 heading into the third inning. Jesus Posso connected on his fourth home run of the season to cut the deficit to 7-4 in the third inning. Coppola picked up his second RBI of the night in the fourth inning driving in Carlos Duran from third base to make it a 7-5 game.
The Cutters made it 8-6 in the top of the seventh inning as Posso delivered a RBI sacrifice fly to deep center field allowing Mark Laird to score easily. Dylan Bosheers finished the game with two hits, giving him his second multi hit game of the series. Jacob Waguespack worked two scoreless innings for Williamsport striking out one batter. The Cutters sit in first place in the Pinckney Division with a five game lead over the West Virginia Black Bears.
