The Tigers opened the scoring in the first inning. Centerfielder Victor Padron started the inning with a base hit and scored on a single by second basemen Brett Pirtle (3-5, RBI) to give Connecticut a 1-0 lead.

Designated hitter DJ Stewart walked with one out and after first basemen Steve Laurino (1-2, RBI, 2 BB) singled it was a 2-1 game.

The Tigers extended their lead with a run in the sixth but the lead was in jeopardy in the seventh. With Heddinger still on the mound the first two runners reached so Aberdeen had runners on second and third with nobody out. With one out shortstop Ricardo Andujar singled in one run to make it 3-2. However, Heddinger was able to get a pop out and a fly out to end the threat and secure the lead.

Drew Smith (SV 2) was the next man out of the pen for Connecticut and he pitched two dominant innings to save the game. Smith didn't allow a base runner and struck out four of the six men he faced.
