Hudler earns AHL Player of the week honors
October 17, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Grand Rapids Griffins left wing Jiri Hudler has been named the CCM Vector/American Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 16, the league announced on Monday.
The 21-year-old native of Olomouc, Czech Republic, tallied four goals, six points and a plus-four rating in three games last week to assume the AHL scoring lead and help position the 3-1 Griffins atop the North Division standings.
Hudler, who recorded four points in the Griffins' season opener on Oct. 8, notched a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 5-2 win at Cleveland. After scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in Friday's 3-1 victory at Hamilton, he capped off the week with another goal and assist in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Houston.
Hudler's six goals and 10 points both lead the AHL and stand as the greatest totals ever accumulated by a Griffin through the first four games of a season. He has registered at least one goal and two points in each game thus far in 2005-06.
With 93 points (35-58-93) in 113 games over his three seasons with Grand Rapids, Hudler is just two points shy of tying Mark Mowers for tenth place on the team's career scoring list. His 58 assists already place ninth all-time on the club.
Hudler becomes the sixth Griffin all-time to be named AHL Player of the Week and the first since goaltender Joey MacDonald was honored on Feb. 16, 2004. In recognition of his achievement, Hudler will receive an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Griffins home game.
