Griffins' Hudler named CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Grand Rapids Griffins left wing Jiri Hudler has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 16, 2005. In three games, Hudler recorded four goals and two assists for six points along with a plus-4 rating to claim the AHL scoring lead.
Hudler, who opened the season with four points on Oct. 8, tallied a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win at Cleveland on Wednesday night. He then scored twice - including the game-winning score - in a 3-1 win at Hamilton on Friday, and added another goal and an assist in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Houston. Hudler has registered at least one goal and at least two points in each of the Griffins' first four games in 2005-06.
In recognition of his achievement, Hudler will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Griffins home game.
A native of Olomouc, Czech Republic, the 21-year-old Hudler is in his third professional season after being selected by Detroit in the second round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He currently leads the AHL with six goals and 10 points and is tied for first with a plus-5 rating. Hudler has tallied 35 goals and 58 assists for 93 points in 113 career AHL games with the Griffins, and has added three points (1g, 2a) in 12 contests with the Red Wings. Hudler participated in the 2004 AHL All-Star Classic, held in Grand Rapids.
