10/12/05 Grand Rapids 5, Cleveland 2

Griffin Derek Meech registered a four-point night as Grand Rapids overtook the Barons 5-2 at National City Rink in The Q. Rookies Steve Bernier and Lukas Kaspar each registered his first professional goal and Josh Hennessy recorded his first professional point in the loss. Following a scoreless first period, the offense was turned on as the teams combined for six goals in the second to end the period 4-2. Just 2:10 into the third period, the Griffins sealed the victory when Valterri Flippula scored on assists from Bryan Helmer and Derek Meech. The Barons went 0-10 on the power play for the second consecutive night.

10/14/05 Cleveland 2, Toronto 3

Special teams made the difference as the Barons fell to the Toronto Marlies, 3-2 in their first road game of the season. The teams combined for 22 power play opportunities through 2 periods of play. The Marlies took the lead in the first when defenseman Jay Harrison recorded his first goal of the season, a power play goal at 16:59 of the first period. Barons right wing Mike Iggulden evened the game up with the Barons first power play goal of the season at 4:42 of the second. Toronto would score once more to end the second stanza with a 2-1 lead. Grant Stevenson scored a goal at the 8:00 mark of the third to even the game, but Toronto would respond with a goal exactly 6-minutes later to end the game 3-2.

10/15/05 Milwaukee 2, Cleveland 4

Mike Iggulden, Steve Bernier, and Lukas Kaspar each scored second period goals for the Barons en route to a 4-2 victory at National City Rink in The Q Saturday night. Iggulden gave the Barons the lead at 11:39 of the second with a his second power play goal in as many days. Twenty-four seconds later, Kaspar notched his second goal of the season. Bernier capped the period with a wrap around strike with 11 seconds remaining in the period. The Admirals got the scoring started in the third when Scottie Upshall scored his first of the season at the 6:42 mark. Milwukee's Brandon Segal trimmed the Barons lead to 3-2 with a short-handed goal at 16:36, but the Barons would solidify victory when Josh Gorges scored a late empty net goal. The Barons out-shot Milwaukee 41-20 in the game.

Coming Up

10/21/05 Cleveland @ Rochester - Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial

The Barons get their second look at Rochester Friday night when they travel to Blue Cross Arena to take on the Amerks. In the opening game of the season, Rochester overtook the Barons 4-1 at National City Rink in The Q. Rochester goaltender Mike Leighton made 30 saves in the victory. Since then, the Amerks have accrued a 3-1-0-0 record, including 1-1-0-0 on home ice. It will be the second in an eight-game series between the two North Division teams.

10/22/05 Cleveland @ Hamilton - Copps Coliseum

The Barons will then head to Hamilton to take on the Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum in the first of eight games this season. Cleveland is 12-21-1-2-0 all time against the Bulldogs. Barons left wing Patrick Rissmiller is tops on the Barons all-time list against the Bulldogs with eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 24 meetings with Hamilton. Hamilton is 0-2-0-0 thus far this season, with both losses coming at home.

Barons Player of the Week

The Cleveland Barons Player of the Week is Steve Bernier. Currently on a four-game point streak (2-2-4), the rookie scored the game-winning-goal against Milwaukee on Saturday. He is tied for team lead in points (4), goals (2), assists (2), plus/minus (+2) and leads the team in game-winning goals (1) and shooting percentage (28.6). He is also tied for fourth among league rookies in points.

First Things First

Wednesday's game against the Grand Rapids Griffins was a night of firsts for the Barons. Lukas Kaspar and Steve Bernier each notched his first professional goal, and Josh Hennessy earned his first professional point with an assist on the Bernier goal

Starting Strong

The Barons rookies have made their presence known thus far this season. Right wing Steve Bernier has points (2-2-4) in each of the Barons four games this season. Lukas Kaspar and Mike Iggulden have notched points in three of the Barons four games. Kaspar has two goals and an assist for three points and Iggulden has two goals and two assists for four points thus far this season. Iggulden and Bernier are tied for team lead in points (4) and assists (2), and Kaspar, Bernier and Iggulden are tied for team lead in goals (2)

WDOK Breakaway with the Barons

The Cleveland Barons will host the first National City Breakaway with the Barons presented by WDOK on Monday, October 17th at Hamilton Ice Arena in Rocky River at 5:30pm. The Barons will hold a one-hour practice that is open to the public. Following the practice, the Barons will take the ice with the fans. It is the perfect opportunity to get autographs from and photographs with the team. Following the Breakaway, select members of the team will be on hand at Ironwood Café in Bay Village to meet fans.
