Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK: The Binghamton Senators dropped their first home game of the season 5-4 to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday.

SATURDAY, OCT. 15TH vs. BRIDGEPORT (4-5 L): The Bridgeport Sound Tigers spoiled the Senators' home-opening contest on Saturday night before a crowd of 4,613 at the Arena. Winger JEFF HEEREMA tallied his first two goals in a Binghamton sweater and got the first of the game off a feed from veteran forward STEVE MARTINS. The goal was the first of three that Binghamton would score on the power play in a penalty-filled affair at the Arena. Bridgeport was whistled for nine minor penalties while the Senators received 12 minors resulting in 11 power plays for the visitors and eight for the home team. Each squad converted on three of their opportunities, but Bridgeport's two even-strength goals were the difference in the game. Two of the Sound Tigers' power-play goals came off the stick of forward JUSTIN PAPINEAU who registered a natural hat trick with goals at 13:39 and 19:19 of the second period and 5:03 of the final stanza. BILLY THOMPSON started in goal for the Senators and stopped 16 of 21 shots in the losing effort. CHRIS MADDEN made his first start of the season in net for Bridgeport and earned a win by stopping 17 of Binghamton's 21 shots.
