Hansen powers Gorillas past Rayz 2-1

AMARILLO, TX - The statistics for Rich Hansen are starting to enter the realm of the absurd this early on in the season. 8 points. 8 goals. 5 power play goals. 3 game winning goals. And all this coming in just 5 games after the Gorillas knocked off the Corpus Christi Rayz 2-1 at home in front of better than 2500 fans at the Amarillo Civic Center. Hansen scored at even strength midway through the opening period and then tallied on the power play late in the third as the Gorillas improved to 3-1-1 on the season. Kevin Watters scored on the power play in the second period for the only Rayz tally of the night. Jamie Vandespyker secured the win for the Gorillas with 18 saves on 18 Corpus shots in the final stanza and 34 saves overall as he garnered his 2nd win of the season.

The Gorillas have now scored 14 goals in 5 games this season with Hansen tallying 8 of those 14. The Gorillas have also connected 8 total times on the power play this season with Hansen notching 5 of those 8 total power play goals. And finally, Hansen has tallied the game winning in each of the Gorillas 3 wins this season.

Rich Hansen and the Gorillas are back in action tomorrow night as they welcome the Youngstown Steelhounds to the Amarillo Civic Center. Doors will open at 6 and the puck drops shortly after 7.
