Bulls Face Tornado To Begin Robertson Cup
FRISCO, TX - It's a familiar foe for the Amarillo Bulls to begin with at the 2012 Robertson Cup North American Hockey League National Tournament here tonight at the Dr. Pepper Arena.
The Bulls face the host Texas Tornado at 7:30 pm in the final game of the opening day of the tournament.
The two teams met eight times during the regular season with the Bulls posting a 5-3 record, including three wins in Frisco.
Forwards Brooks Behling, Greg Gibson and Matt Johnson have combined for 12 goals in the season long series, while TJ Sarcona and John Rey have 11 total assists, together. Goaltenders Gregg Gruehl and Mike Taffe have a combined goals against average of 3.13, and a save percentage of .908.
Jack Prince has six goals and four assists for 10 points for the Tornado, while Marc Biggs has eight points. Goaltender Hunter Leisner is 2-3-1 with a 3.15 goals against average, but a .910 save per centage.
Already, it's the Bulls fifth lifetime game at the Robertson Cup after posting a 2-2 mark last year and advancing to the National Semi-Final. The Tornado recorded three straight Robertson Cup tournament titles from 2004-2006.
Amarillo posted 46 regular season wins en route to the NAHL overall title, and the South Division regular season and playoff titles. In the post season, the Bulls beat the Odessa Jackalopes in four games, and then took care of the rival Topeka RoadRunners also in four games including the clincher in Kansas last Friday.
The Texas Tornado finished in third place in the regular season, but have been off the ice for almost three weeks since their first round exit to the Topeka RoadRunners in three straight games.
