Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Loveland, CO 4/18/10 - Despite being down by eight points at halftime, the Amarillo Venom came back to defeat the Colorado Ice 56-37 Sunday night.

Only 15 yards away from the endzone, Colorado struck on the first offensive play of the game on a Bobby Purify catch and run. Amarillo answered both Ice touchdowns in the first frame with DuVaughn Flagler (12 yards) and Alex Watson (27 yards) touchdown receptions. Colorado ended the first frame up 20-14 after a touchdown catch from wide receiver Cory Sleeth (his first of the season).

The Venom offense scored only seven points in the second quarter, as DuVaughn Flagler caught a pass over the middle for his second touchdown of the half. After Colorado tacked on seven points, the Venom could not punch the ball into the endzone one yard out as time expired. Halftime score, Colorado 29, Amarillo 21.

A wild third quarter included a fumble, onside kick, safety, blocked field goal for a touchdown, and three offensive scores. Dontrell Moore and Alex Watson scored both offensive Amarillo touchdowns, while defensive back Donta Bright carried the blocked field goal attempt (block by Barrett Allen) in for a score. Bobby Purify added an additional Colorado touchdown, as the Venom led 42-37 after three quarters.

The Venom defense did not allow a fourth quarter point, while the DuVaughn Flagler (third of the game) and Sha-Ron Edwards (fifth on the year) scored for Amarillo. Final score, Amarillo 56, Colorado 37.

Wide receiver DuVaughn Flagler has 8 receiving touchdowns over his last 3 contests...defensive back Cashmin Thomas' 4th-quarter interception leads the team with five...the Amarillo defense has surrendered only 14 second-half points over their last three games.
