Amarillo Gorillas Cease Operations

May 20, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release

The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that the Amarillo Gorillas will not participate in the 2010-11 CHL season. The Gorillas have been a member team in the CHL since 2002 and dating back to the previous WPHL/CHL team in Amarillo, professional hockey has been a part of the city's sports landscape since 1996.

"Professional hockey has a long history in Amarillo and one with many memories over the years for players, management and fans alike," said Duane Lewis, CHL Commissioner. "We thank the great hockey fans in Amarillo for the 15 years they have shared with the Central Hockey League and the Western Professional Hockey League, and we would love to bring CHL hockey back to Amarillo in the future."

The CHL and team ownership are looking at different possibilities and opportunities for the Gorillas franchise moving forward.

All players currently under contract for next season or whose CHL rights were held by the Gorillas immediately become free agents.

About the CHL The CHL recently completed its 18th season with the culmination of crowning the Rapid City Rush the 2010 Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Champions. The league consists of 14 active member teams across nine states. The CHL saw close to two million fans attend games in each of the last two seasons and has regularly been the North American professional ‘AA' hockey league leader in average attendance. The CHL is administered by a wholly-owned subsidiary of Global Entertainment Corporation (Global Stock Symbol: GNTP) a company engaged in sports management, multi-purpose events and entertainment center and related real estate development, facility and venue management and marketing, venue food services and venue ticketing.
