May 21, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 5/21/10- The Amarillo Venom have clinched the Lonestar West Division title and will strive for another win Saturday when the Arkansas Diamonds visit the Amarillo Civic Center at 7pm CST.
Amarillo (8-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season (May 8th) with a win last week against San Angelo 66-41. Wide receiver Anthony Clark caught a game-high 5 balls for 46 yards and has scored at least once in each of his three games with the Venom (five total). Linebacker Kyle Wilson amplified the Venom defense with one sack (leads the team with 4) and two forced fumbles. Defensive back Kevin Patterson garnered Amarillo's first defensive score of the season with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown. With two interceptions last week, the Venom lead IFL in interceptions with 20.
Arkansas (8-2) leads the Lonestar East Division (second straight week Amarillo has hosted a division leader) and is 4-0 on the road. The Diamonds play their second of three straight road games and have won six of their last seven contests. Both defenses look to shine, as Arkansas leads the conference with the least amount of points allowed per game (27.1) as well as the least amount of overall points against (291). Amarillo's defense ranks second with the least amount of overall points against (323).
