Hounds Earn Top Spot in Inaugural CHL Coaches Poll
November 3, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds (4-0-1) received some good news yesterday when the Central Hockey League released its first ever CHL Coaches Poll. The Hounds were voted the top team in the league thanks to eight first place votes out of the 16 other CHL teams (teams were unable to vote for themselves). Youngstown received no worse than fourth place by any opposing coach.
"I am pleased with the start we have gotten off to," said SteelHounds Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "There is a lot of work left to do but it is always nice not to put yourself behind in the early going. I feel we haven't even come close to hitting stride yet so I think the best is yet to come."
The CHL Coaches Poll will be released each Thursday afternoon throughout the season. First place selections earn 10 points second place earns nine points, etc. A potential perfect score of 160 exists should a team receive all 16 first place votes. The SteelHounds finished with 147 points, three better than Oklahoma City (4-0-1).
Rounding out the top five were Arizona (4-1-0, 136 points), Wichita (3-1-0, 102 points) and Colorado (2-1-0, 92 points).
The SteelHounds continue their five-game road trip tonight when they square off against the New Mexico Scorpions for the second time in three nights. On Wednesday, Youngstown squandered a 4-3 third period lead but did manage to get a point in a 5-4 overtime loss. The five-game point streak for the Hounds is the longest in franchise history.
Tonight's game can be heard on ESPN Radio, 1240-The Fan beginning at 9:15 PM (EST) or can be heard via the Hounds webcast accessible at www.steelhounds.com beginning at 9:30 PM (EST).
