The Eagles and Sundogs squared off for the opening faceoff and Ryan Tobler and Jonathan Bernier squared off just three seconds into the game to set the tone. Brent Kelly scored for the Sundogs just moments later on a breakaway goal to take a 1-0 lead. Colorado was awarded a four-minute power play at the 4:39 mark but they were unable to convert, but after 10 minutes of play, the Eagles had only given up one shot, a goal. Ryan Steeves gave the Sundogs a 2-0 lead on a snap shot that beat Eagles goaltender far post. The Eagles came back and cut the lead in half with a power play goal by Sean Robertson who received a backhand pass across the crease from Ryan Tobler. After one period, the Sundogs held a slight edge on the Eagles 2-1.
Brad Williamson tied the game at two at the 6:41 mark of the second period when he snuck the puck by Chris Mayotte from in between the circles. Only 27 seconds later Cory Stillman regained the lead for the Sundog at 3-2. The Eagles again tied the game on a goal by Aaron Schneekloth, his second goal of the season as he tipped a centering pass from Jay Birnie. After multiple penalties at the 16:55 mark of the period and an ejection of Eagles head coach Chris Stewart, the teams battled until the final seconds of the second period. Brent Kelly scored his second goal of the game with just seven seconds remaining in the period when he let a wrist shot go from outside the right circle through traffic and the puck found the back of the net. Arizona took the 4-3 lead going into the third period.
Colorado scored the only two goals of the third period. Chris Hartsburg stuffed a pass into the net on a pass from Greg Pankewicz and Craig Strain. It was the Eagles third power play goal of the game and they finished 3-7 on the power play while stopping all six of Arizona's chances in the game. The Eagles go-ahead goal was scored by Craig Strain with just 2:45 to go in the game. He stuffed the puck by the left leg pad of Mayotte on his second chance giving the Eagles a 5-4 victory.
