Sher-Wood CHL Player & Goaltender of the Month Announced
November 3, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
The Sher-Wood Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Month for October/2006 have been determined, with Oklahoma City defensemen Mike Burgoyne and Memphis goaltender Larry Sterling earning the awards. Both Burgoyne and Sterling will receive custom leather jackets from Sher-Wood, the official stick, glove, pant and protective equipment supplier to the CHL.
First year Blazer rearguard Burgoyne helped pace Oklahoma City to a 4-0-1 start to the season, recording multiple points in four of five October contests. The Hamilton native was also involved in scoring the last three game winning goals for Oklahoma City, assisting on game winning tallies by Michel Beausoleil (3-2 in overtime at Memphis on 10/31) and Marc Connors (3-0 vs. Amarillo 10/28) while scoring the winning goal himself while on the power play in a 5-3 home win over Tulsa October 27th.
Sterling has been an early season workhorse for the RiverKings, appearing in all five Memphis contests without suffering a regulation play loss. He picked up back to back home victories over Bossier-Shreveport on October 27th and 28th, stopping 50 of 52 shots in the pair of wins. Sterling ends October with a record of 2-0-2 while posting a 2.07 goals against average and a .930 save percentage, and was previously named the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week for Week 3 of the 2005-2006 season while a member of the Fort Worth Brahmas.
