Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced Right Wing / Center Jeff Hamilton and Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz have been named to the 2003-04 AHL All-Star Team. Hamilton was named to the first team while Dubielewicz, who was also named to the League's All-Rookie Team yesterday, was a second-team selection.
Hamilton leads all AHL scorers with 39 goals, including a single-season-record 15 game-winners. The Englewood, Ohio native is also second in the League with 18 power-play goals, third with 271 shots on goal and tied for tenth with 63 points. The 39 goals are a Sound Tigers single-season record with the last being his franchise all-time record 61st.
Hamilton hit four targets on eight shots in the Accuracy Shooting Competition to help lead PlanetUSA to an 18-9 win over Canada at the AHL All-Star Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 8th then led all players with seven shots on goal and tied for the scoring lead with three points, on one goal and two assists, as a starting forward in the All-Star Game the following night. He was also the League's Sher-Wood Player of the Week for the week ending November 30th with four goals and one assist in three games and appeared in his first-ever NHL game with the Islanders on December 2nd.
Hamilton signed as free agent with the Islanders in August of 2002 after playing one season with Karpat in Finland. He played the previous five seasons, 1996-2001, at Yale University, missing most of the 1999-2000 campaign with an abdominal injury. Hamilton completed his collegiate career as Yale's All-Time leading scorer with 80 goals, 94 assists and 174 points in 127 games and was a three-time All-Ivy League selection and a first Team East All-American.
Dubielewicz leads all AHL goaltenders and is on pace to break the all-time League record with a 1.42 goals against average. The Invermere, British Columbia native is also second with a .944 save percentage and third with eight shutouts. The eight shutouts are a Sound Tigers single-season record. Dubielewicz is 20-8-4 in 32 AHL games with the Sound Tigers this season and stopped all 14 shots he faced in a 40-minute relief appearance in his NHL debut leading the Islanders to a come-from-behind 4-2 road win over the Philadelphia Flyers last Thursday.
Dubielewicz was the AHL Rookie of the Month with 5-0-1 record, 0.82 goals against average, .964 save percentage and two shutouts in December. He also stopped 23 of 25 shots faced in 30:56 as the starting goaltender in the Canadian team's 9-5 win at the All-Star Game.
Dubielewicz signed as a free agent with the Islanders last summer after a brilliant four-year career at the University of Denver where he posted the Pioneers' highest career save percentage, .926, and was a finalist for the 2002 Hobey Baker Award, which is given to the best collegiate hockey player in the United States. He led Denver to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Championship and was the Association's top-ranked goaltender in both 2000-01 and 2001-02.
The Sound Tigers will visit the Manchester Monarchs tomorrow at 7:35 p.m. They will return home to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard to host the Hershey Bears this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the Albany River Rats this Sunday at 4:05 p.m. All three games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com.
