HOUSTON, TX -- Mark Cullen had a goal and two assists to help the Houston Aeros skate to a 4-4 tie with Cincinnati Mighty Ducks Thursday at the Toyota Center.
Cullen scored his 10th goal of the season midway through the second period to cut the Ducks lead to 4-2 and assisted on goals by Kevin Mitchell and Jeff Hoggan 35 seconds apart late in the third period for the Aeros, who remain three points ahead of Cincinnati in fourth place in the West Division.
Hoggan's goal, his seventh in his last eight games, came with 57 seconds left in regulation for Houston, which has outscored Cincinnati 8-2 in the third period in six meetings this season.
Casey Hankinson, Chris Armstrong, Pierre Parenteau and Chris Kuntiz scored goals 8:36 apart in the second period for the Ducks, who twice held three-goal leads at 3-0 and 4-1.
Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 32 shots for Cincinnati, which has earned points in six of its last seven games (3-1-3-0).
Kyle Kettles surrendered three goals on 19 shots before being pulled in favor of Frederick Cloutier in the second period for Houston. Cloutier, recalled March 27 from ECHL Louisiana, stopped 13 of the 14 shots he faced over the game's final 32:50.
With the tie the Ducks now have 68 points, five points in front of Utah for the fifth and final playoff spot in the West Division with five games left in the regular season for both clubs.
The Ducks and Aeros meet again Friday at 8:00 p.m. at the Toyota Center. The game can be heard on WCKY-AM (1360).
