IL1 Buffalo Bisons

Hague Homer Is Only Offense in 3-1 Loss

June 2, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

Matt Hague's third-inning home run was the only dent the Bisons put in the Victory Field scoreboard in a 3-1 defeat to the Indians on Tuesday night. While Buffalo outhit their counterparts, 7-4, a trio of early Indianapolis' runs were enough to hand the Herd a defeat.

The Bisons also struck out 12 times in a loss that evened the three-game series at one win apiece in advance of Wednesday afternoon's rubber match.

Buffalo was already down 3-0 when Hague lifted his third home run of the season over the left-centerfield wall off I-Tribe starter, Adrian Sampson. It was the second of two hits for the Bisons' third baseman for his fifth straight multi-hit game. Hague now leads all International League hitters with a .356 batting average.

But Buffalo's offense threatened just once after Hague's home run. The Herd loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh inning, and this time the Indians' pitching staff got the better of Buffalo's top hitter. Reliever Deolis Guerra came on to strike out Hague on a foul tip to end the threat.

Andrew Albers allowed just four hits in another quality start, but was saddled with the loss. After Keon Broxton reached base on Ramon Santiago's fielding error in the first, Brent Morel doubled off Albers to drive in the unearned run. Gorkys Hernandez, who got to Albers with a grand slam last week in Buffalo, hit a two-run single off the southpaw in the second inning to give Indy the 3-0 advantage.

Albers retired 10 out of 11 after the second inning, but fell to 2-7 on the season despite a solid 3.64 ERA.

Sampson picked up eight of the 12 Indians strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. He improved to 5-3 on the season.

BISONS NOTES:

He signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays this weekend and was activated just prior to Tuesday night's game...The Blue Jays recalled Scott Copeland as their '26th Man' for their doubleheader in Washington today. Toronto also officially activated catcher Dioner Navarro off his injury rehab assignment with the Herd.
