Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) edged the Pawtucket Red Sox 3-2 on Tuesday night at PNC Field. The win evened both clubs' records to 27-26.
Beginning the season on the disabled list due to a shoulder injury, Jose De Paula (1-0) showed no ill effects in his debut for SWB. The left-hander authored five scoreless innings. He yielded four hits, a walk and struck out two. Keith Couch (2-6) dropped to 0-2 against the RailRiders after allowing three runs on seven hits in his seven innings of work. Jose Ramirez notched his seventh save with a perfect ninth. The right-hander struck out two.
The two teams swapped scoreless frames through four before Tyler Austin boomed a two-run shot to the pedestrian bridge beyond the left field bullpen. Austin Romine crossed home on the round-tripper for a 2-0 lead. It was Austin's fourth homer of the year.
Cole Figueroa capitalized on the staggered Couch by stroking a double to right. Nick Noonan snuck a single through the right side to score Figueroa for a 3-0 advantage.
The PawSox made things interesting in the eighth when Bryce Brentz plated Travis Shaw on a two-run homer to right-center off reliever Tyler Webb. The southpaw rallied to whiff Garin Cecchini before giving way to Ramirez in the ninth.
The RailRiders conclude their homestand against the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox) on Wednesday afternoon. The Business Person's Special will feature a dynamic pitching matchup. Right-hander Bryan Mitchell (3-4, 3.20) goes for the RailRides against Pawtucket left-hander Brian Johnson (6-3, 2.60). First pitch at PNC Field is set for 12:05 p.m. For tickets or more information, call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit the team's website, www.swbrailriders.com.
