Toledo Mud Hens News Release
High five! Tuesday night the Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Columbus Clippers 4-1 to extend their winning streak to five. Ross Seaton took the hill for his second Triple-A start of the season, and tossed a dandy. For much of the game it was a pitchers' duel, but the Toledo bats awoke in the late innings to propel them to a victory.
The Mud Hens plated their first run of the night in the first inning. Xavier Avery jumped all over the first pitch for a double to right field, and was then bunted over to third by Dixon Machado. Steven Moya, hitting in the three-hole, sliced an opposite field single to bring in Avery and give Toledo an early 1-0 lead.
On the mound for the Hens, Seaton was lights out in his six innings of work. After walking the first batter of the game for the Clippers, he went on to strikeout the final two batters of the ining. In the second inning, Seaton struck out the first two hitters he faced, giving him a strikeout streak of four. Overall, he struck out five hitters and shut out the Columbus offense, allowing no runs and only two hits.
In the seventh, with Clippers' starter Michael Roth still pitching, Jefry Marte took him deep for a solo-shot to give the Hens a 2-0 lead. They weren't done though, as Jeff McVaney and Corey Jones added back-to-back one out singles to put runners on the corners. A walk to Manny Pina loaded the bases, and then Avery hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give Toledo a 3-0 lead. Columbus got a run back in the seventh, but Mike Hessman answered right back with his own solo home run to give them a 4-1 win.
The Mud Hens go for the sweep of the Clippers tomorrow morning at 11:35 a.m. in Columbus.
