Utah Grizzlies News Release
In a Nutshell
Utah welcomed three new players to the lineup this weekend.
Utah has collected points in four of their last five games.
The Grizzlies play in Idaho Friday and Saturday.
Next Home Games: Wednesday (21st) Thursday (22nd) versus Victoria.
Late Bloomer
Ryan Kinasewich was originally acquired in a trade from Reading on November 3rd. Immigration issues kept him from playing in a game for Utah until November 18th. However, since then, the Alberta native has led the Grizzlies in scoring with five goals and seven assists in 12 games.
ECHL Leader Board Watch and What a Difference a Year Makes
With his 16th goal of the season Monday night versus San Diego, Matt Craig has regained the league lead with 16 goals scored. Last year in the AHL, Erik Westrum led the Grizzlies in scoring with 18 goals the entire season. Currently playing in Houston, he has 12 goals and 27 assists to lead the AHL in scoring with 39 points.
Grizzlies Debuts
Three new players debuted for the Grizzlies Saturday night versus San Diego. Ed Hill, Colt King and Treavor Peterson were acquired in a trade from Augusta earlier in the week. King scored his first goal for Utah in that game, early in the third period.
Familiar Faces
All three new players either played for Grizzlies head coach Jason Christie or
assistant coach Chuck Weber last year for their respective teams.
Ed Hill- 54 games in Peoria (Christie)
Colt King- 67 games in Augusta (Weber)
Treavor Peterson- 71 games in Augusta (Weber)
Tough Luck Continues for Kasper
Also Saturday night versus San Diego, Kris Kasper returned to action for the first time since the third game of the season (October 23rd @ Phoenix.) Unfortunately during the game, he sustained another injury and was placed back on IR Sunday.
Justin Eddy's Always Ready
With Alfie Michaud's season-long success between the pipes for Utah, second-year pro Justin Eddy has not seen a lot of playing time this year. Monday versus San Diego, playing for the first time since November 30, he stopped 37 of 39 shots from the Gulls in the 2-1 overtime loss. Eddy is now 4-2-1 with a 3.14 GAA and a .900 save percentage.
Every Day Alfie
Last week, Alfie Michaud was recognized by the ECHL for the third time this season, being named a runner-up for the league's Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week. He has been named the league's Goaltender of the Week once (November 6-13) and now named a runner-up twice. (October 31st-November 6th and November 28th-December 4th.)
Just Trying to Keep Up
Sitting atop the ECHL's West Division: the Alaska Aces and Las Vegas Wranglers. The Aces are winners of eleven straight games. Las Vegas is unbeaten in their last eleven (10-0-1.)
Holiday Hockey at the E-Center
The Grizzlies will be home Monday, December 26th and Tuesday, December 27th hosting Idaho. The next week, Utah hosts Las Vegas on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day at the E-Center.
