Desbiens Named ECHL Player Of The Week

The ECHL announced today that Gladiators rookie forward Guillaume Desbiens has been named the ECHL player of the Week for the week of December 5th through December 11th.

Desbiens had 10 points (2g, 8a) for the Gladiator in four games during the week helping Gwinnett go 3-0-1 and move into a tie for third place in the ECHL South Division.

The Alma, Quebec native tied a Gladiators team record posting 4 assists in a 7-1 win over the Augusta Lynx on December 6th. He had a goal and 2 assists in a 5-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers on December 8th while netting a goal and an assist for the Gladiators in a 5-2 win over Trenton on December 9th. He finished the week with a helper in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Columbia Inferno on December 10th.

Desbiens currently ranks 5th on the Gladiators in scoring with 18 points off of 7 goals and 11 assists. He has recorded 3 power play goals and has notched one game winning goal in 18 games with the Gladiators. Desbiens has recorded at least one point in each of the Gladiators last 8 games and will tie the team season high for consecutive game with a point at 9 if he records a point in his next game with Gwinnett.

Drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 4th round, #116 overall in the 2003 NHL draft, Desbiens appeared in one American Hockey League game with the Chicago Wolves before being assigned to the Gladiators on October 21st.
