
Pelletier, Gladiators douses Inferno, 6-3

The Gwinnett Gladiators moved into sole possesion of first place in the ECHL South Division with a 6-3 win over the Columbia Inferno on Tuesday night. Pascal Pelletier posted 4 goals while Guillaume Desbiens extended his point scoring streak to nine games.
Gwinnett jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Jeff Campbell's 9th goal of the season. In the slot, Campbell deflected Troy Milam's slapshot past Inferno netminder Chris Houle for the tally. Pascal Pelletier picked up an assist on the goal 8:44 into the first period.
Travis Lisabeth tied the game at one for Columbia 11:45 into the first period. Lisabeth beat Gladiators goaltender to the far post for the tally from the right wing circle. Leon Hayward and Jay Legault chipped in the assists.
Gwinnett regained the lead with a power play goal eight seconds into the man advantage. Pelletier jammed the puck past Houle, corralling a rebound off the back dasherboard for his 14th goal of the season. Danny Eberly had an assist on the goal, taking the initial shot at the point. Steve Slaton also has a helper on the goal at 17:15 of the first period.
Campbell posted his second goal of the game sliding untouched into the slot and beating Houle by waiting for the goaltender to commit. Brad Schell had an assist on the tally 3:37 into the second giving Gwinnett a 3-1 lead.
Columbia cut the lead back to a goal with 8:59 left in the second period. John Longo took a pass out of the corner and beat Fields with a quick snapshot for the tally. Nick Greenough and Jeff Smith picked up the assists on the goal.
Columbia tied the game at three when David Bonk jammed the puck past Fields for the tally 1:21 into the third. Jay Legault and Derek Eastman picked up the assists.
Pelletier put the game away as he exploded for three goals while completing the hat-trick in the third period.
His first tally of the period, his second of the game came 7:16 into the third and proved to be the game winner. Taking a pass in the slot from Guillaume Desbiens, Pelletier jammed the puck past Houle giving the Gladiators a 4-3 lead. Jim Sharrow also picked up an assist on the goal.
Pelletier netted the hat trick to give the Gladiators a 5-3 lead 10:44 into the third period. Desbiens circled the Columbia zone before finding Pelletier trailing the play sliding into the slot to set up the tally. Jeff Dwyer picked up an assist on the goal.
The Labrador City, Newfoundland native tallied his fourth goal of the game, tying Gladiators team record with an empty net goal with 19 seconds left in the third period. Danny Eberly and Troy Milam had the assists on the tally.
Sean Fields made 18 saves to help the Gladiators improve to 12-5-3 on the season. Gwinnett went 2-for-5 on the power play in the win. The Gladiators travel to Pensacola on Wednesday for an 8:05 p.m. start. Catch all the play by play action on WDUN News Talk 550.
