Aces raise over $10,000 for Mississippi relief fund

December 13, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces will donate more than ten thousand dollars to the Mississippi Sea Wolves organization in a continuing effort to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina, which wiped out Mississippi's 2005-06 ECHL season.

Exactly $10,350 was raised during a post-game jersey auction following Alaska's 3-2 shootout win over Fresno Saturday, December 10. The jerseys auctioned off were the game-worn sweaters from that victory, as the Aces sported the Mississippi colors as a tribute to the Sea Wolves organization, which plans to return to the ECHL in time for the 2006-07 season. The high bid in the auction belonged to Chris Minard, whose 15 goals rank second in the league and whose jersey was sold for $800.

Defenseman Ryan Gaucher finished runner-up for ECHL Player of the Week honors for the second straight week after scoring a goal and assisting on five others with a +5 rating in a three-game sweep of Fresno that extended Alaska's club-record winning streak to 11, three shy of the league record. Gaucher has 15 points (4g-11a) during his current eight-game scoring streak.

Alaska owns the best record in the ECHL at 17-3-2, but its lead in the West Division remains only two points over Las Vegas, a team also unbeaten in its last 11 games (10-0-1). The Aces open a three-game series at Victoria (9-15-1 overall but coming off two wins at third-place Idaho) this Friday at 6:00 p.m. ADT.

All Alaska Aces games, home and away, are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
