A LOOK AT LAST WEEK (1-2-0-0)

Wednesday @ Cincinnati Loss 6-0
Friday @ Cincinnati Win 4-2
Saturday @ Cleveland Loss 3-2

The Grizzlies started off their road tour Wednesday when they suffered their worst loss of the season falling 6-0 to the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks in front of 4,020 fans at the Cincinnati Gardens. The loss was the first shutout of the season against the Grizzlies. Utah had shutout its first opponent in their previous game on November 23 (1-0 victory over Worcester). Cincinnati's Tony Martensson scored a goal and had two assists, while Keith Aucoin and Michael Holmqvist each scored a goal and had a helper leading the way for Cincinnati who snapped a three-game losing streak. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped all 23 Utah shots earning his fourth shutout of the season. For Utah, their best scoring chances came early in the game when Jarrod Skalde and Dylan Gyori each had great chances on re-directions against Bryzgalov. Gyori was playing in his 300th professional game. Utah goaltender Jason Bacashihua was pulled in the second period after allowing four goals on 12 shots. The loss dropped Bacashihua to 3-8-1 on the season. Mike Smith replaced Bacashihua and he allowed two goals on 15 shots. The game turned physical near the end as Mike Sgroi, Dan Jancevski and Warren Peters were all shown the dressing room early. Cam Severson, Alexei Smirnov and Nick Smith also scored for the Ducks. The tone of Friday's game was very different for Utah. Antti Miettinen scored two goals to lead the Grizzlies to a 4-2 win over the Ducks. Miettinen gave Utah a 2-1 lead with an unassisted shorthanded goal 2:59 into the second period and scored the go-ahead goal with a power-play tally with 2:25 left in the third. David Oliver added insurance with an empty-net goal with 18 seconds left in the third period. The goal was the first in 17 games for Oliver, who scored 20 goals in 1995-96 with the Edmonton Oilers. Mike Smith stopped 39 shots, including 33 over the final two periods, to improve to 3-5-0 on the season. Chris Kunitz and Casey Hankinson each had shorthanded goals for the Ducks, who lost for the fourth time in five games. Ilya Bryzgalov, who entered the game with a 1.01 goals-against average at home, gave up three goals on 22 shots in the loss. Utah traveled to Cleveland where they fell 3-2 to the Barons at Gund Arena. The Grizzlies were first on the board when Warren Peter's first goal for the Grizzlies found the net at 4:23 of the first period. The Barons responded with two goals. Jon DiSalvatore scored with the man-advantage at 12:28 of the first and Garrett Stafford gave Cleveland the lead at 1:45 of the second. Utah tied the game 2-2 in the second period when Antti Miettinen found the net on the powerplay at the 13:45 mark. However, Utah gave up its fourth shorthanded goal in their last three games as Travis Hansen claimed the game winner at 9:03 of the third period. Jason Bacashihua had 23 saves in a game where each team had 26 shots on goal. Barons netminder Nolan Schaefer finished with 24 saves winning his first AHL game.
