February 6, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - A 1-0 lead that the Grizzlies held for twenty- one minutes and 19 seconds quickly evaporated as the team fell 6-1 to Phoenix Friday night at the E-Center.
Utah jumped out to the early advantage with a goal by Tom May, his 12th of the season. 3:12 into the first period. The rookie forward took the puck unassisted from his own end to the Phoenix goal beating goaltender Craig Kowalski.
In the second period, the RoadRunners went on a roll scoring four, including a goal on a penalty-shot from Ashton Rome.
The RoadRunners tightened their grip on the lead early in the third scoring two goals in 11 seconds to build their lead to 6-1 in the first 3:04 of the frame.
Utah headed into the game with only 13 players tonight. The shorthanded Grizzlies missed the presence and leadership of 5 players that were called-up to play in the AHL this weekend.
Utah and the RoadRunners continue their three-game series Saturday at the E-Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
