Leggio named ECHL Goalie of the Month

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades are proud to announce that the ECHL has named rookie David Leggio the RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month for January.

The 24-year-old was a perfect 8-0-0 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 1.50 and a save percentage of .945 as Florida went 12-1-0 and moved into first place in the ECHL.

He began the month posting three consecutive home wins, including stopping all 20 shots in a 3-0 win against Mississippi for his third shutout. He won three road games in a row, including a 24-save performance in a 4-0 win at South Carolina for his fourth shutout of the season. He ended January making 26 saves in a 4-1 win against Gwinnett on Jan. 24 and then stopped 23 of 24 shots for a 7-1 win at South Carolina on Jan. 30.

Leggio, who is under contract to Albany of the American Hockey League, is 16-3-1 and is second in the league with four shutouts while ranking third with a goals-against average of 2.23. He is tied for fourth in wins and ranks fifth with a save percentage of .921.

He played the last four years at Clarkson University where he was 59-29-12 with eight shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.30 and a save percentage of .922 in 103 games. He was 22-12-4 with five shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.20 and a save percentage of .920 in 2007-08 and 24-7-5 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.16 and a save percentage of .930 in 2006-07 when he won the Ken Dryden Award as the top goaltender in the East Coast Athletic Conference.

The Everblades return to action tonight when they travel to South Carolina to take on the Stingrays at 7:05 p.m. from the North Charleston Coliseum. The Everblades return home on Wednesday, February 11 when they host the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:30 p.m. from Germain Arena.
