Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, have announced that Bakersfield native, Stockdale High grad and New York Giants quarterback David Carr will serve as a motivational speaker at the Condors annual Church Day on Saturday, Feb. 21. Game time is noon against the Victoria Salmon Kings.

Carr, 29, was the first overall pick in the 2002 NFL draft by the Houston Texans after completing a record-breaking career at Fresno State University. Widely known and respected for his religious faith and dedication, Carr will drop the ceremonial first puck prior to the game and give a motivational speech/Q&A session after the contest next door at the Convention Center for fans who would like to stay. Additionally, Carr is donating his appearance fee to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

He has started 79 of his 82 career games played, split between Houston, the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants. As a senior at Fresno State, Carr led the nation in passing yards and touchdowns and finished fifth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy. At Stockdale High, he earned all-league honors as both a junior and senior while rewriting the school's record book.

"We're very excited to have David coming out to the game," said Condors President Matthew Riley. "Being a Bakersfield guy and having achieved as much as he has is special in itself, but to have a role model like him come and speak to our fans is a great opportunity."

His appearance, along with Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber from The Veggie Tales, makes this game perfect for a church or youth sports team group outing.
