Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (35-25-3-3) defeated the Tulsa Oilers (32-26-3-2) 4-3 Friday night at Maverik Center.
Erik Higby scored two second period goals to give Utah 3-2 and 4-2 leads, both goals were assisted by Alex Krushelnyski.
"They're pretty much playoff games," said Higby. "We're in a tight race so every game is important."
Down 2-1 going to the second period, the Grizzlies got the scoring started 56 seconds in to start a stretch of three goals in 6:11. T.J. Syner (14) scored from Ryan Hayes and Charlie Sarault after Connor Hardowa blocked a shot on a Tulsa four-on-two and got the Grizzlies going with a three-on-one back the other way.
"Tulsa doesn't quit; they did a good job of getting late goals in the first two periods," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "We found a way to score in bunches in the second period and I thought our forwards played a solid game. They were buzzing, made good plays and played smart hockey."
Utah took a 1-0 lead 15:52 into the first period on their 14th shot of the night as Charlie Sarault (18) blasted a slapshot from Shayne Taker and Matt Berry as the Grizzlies broke through on Tulsa goaltender Jussi Olkinuora. The Oilers scored on the power-play and on a two-on-one in the final two minutes of the first period to give Tulsa a quick lead.
The Grizzlies outshot Tulsa in each period and 38-22 in the contest.
Ryan Faragher earned his 23rd win of the year by stopping 19 of 22 shots.
