Manchester Monarchs News Release
HEAD-TO-HEAD - The Monarchs and Thunder square-off for what could be the most important game of the season for both teams. Manchester leads the season series against Adirondack with a 6-5-1-0 record and has taken four of the last five games between the East Division rivals. After tonight, the teams will play each other one more time to complete the 14-game season series.
WHERE WE STAND - The Monarchs (83 points) hold a seven point lead over Adirondack for the top spot in the East Division. Manchester currently trails the Toledo Walleye by six points for tops in the conference, and is two points behind South Carolina for second place.
PLAYOFF PICTURE - The Monarchs magic number to clinch the East Division crown remains at eight points, meaning a combination of Monarchs points earned or points Adirondack does not take in games that adds up to eight, will earn the Monarchs the East, making tonight's game a four-point game. The Monarchs also have a magic number of four with the Elmira Jackals to guarantee themselves a post-season bid.
DIFFERENT WAYS TO WIN - The Monarchs and Thunder have found different ways to win this season. Manchester enters tonight's game with 206 goals scored this season, the most in the Eastern Conference. Adirondack has scored 176 goals, the third-fewest in the Eastern Conference and is tied for 22nd in the league with an average of 2.71 goals per game. On the flip-side, the Thunder have allowed the 5th fewest goals against (166) in the ECHL where Manchester has allowed the tenth-most goals (198) across the league.
EXPECT SHOTS - Maxim Kitsyn leads the Monarchs with 213 shots on goal this season, and sits in 3rd place in the ECHL in putting pucks on net. One of the players in front of Kitsyn in the category is Adirondack's Michael Kirkpatrick, who has a league-leading 225 shots this season, and also happens to lead all rookies with 26 goals.
POWER OUTTAGE AT HOME - When the Monarchs score three goals, they usually win. Coming into tonight's game, the Monarchs are 18-2-1-0 on the road when scoring three or more goals, and average 3.41 goals/road game. Adirondack checks in scoring an average of 2.53 goals/home game this season, posting a 7-20-1-1 record when failing to score three times in a game at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
GET TO 100% - The Monarchs look to bring their combined power-play percentage to 100% tonight, a benchmark Head Coach, Rich Seeley, has been looking for all season. Currently, the Monarchs sit at 99.2% (18.8% PP, 80.4% PK). The penalty kill could get a boost tonight, as the Thunder only convert at 10.5% on the man-advantage this season, second to last in the ECHL. The key matchup tonight will be Adirondack's 9th ranked home penalty kill (86.4%) against Manchester's 3rd ranked road power play (21.8%).
HOLDING THE LEAD - Manchester and Adirondack have exceptional records when leading after two periods this season, and are two-of-six teams in the ECHL that have not lost in regulation when taking a lead into the final period. Manchester enters tonight with a 24-0-1-3 record when leading after two, and Adirondack clocks in with a 27-0-2-0 record when taking a lead into the second intermission.
