Walleye Stunned by Cincinnati 4-1

(Toledo, OH) Another standing room only crowd was on hand but the Walleye fell to Cincinnati 4-1 Saturday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 42-19-2-3 and 24-8-0-1 at home. The Walleye are in Brampton Sunday afternoon.

Toledo started with a flurry of shots and chances but couldn't collect the first goal. That came from Cincinnati at 7:46 of the first period from Tommy Mele. A power play goal from the Cyclones at 12:18 gave them a 2-0 lead after the first period.

The Walleye kept up the pressure in the second frame out shooting the Cyclones 9-7 but neither team scoring. After the Cyclones scored to make it 3-0 in the third period, Josh Shalla brought the crowd to life at 16:54 with a wrist shot for his 19th goal of the season. Cincinnati did add an empty net goal to finish the scoring.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stops 18 of 21 he faced and his record is 26-10-1-2 on the season. Toledo is 1-3-0 against the Cyclones this year. Toledo held a 33-22 shot advantage in the game.
