KALAMAZOO, MI - For the second straight night, Ludwig Blomstrand led the Kalamazoo Wings with two goals, as the Wings downed the Wheeling Nailers, 5-1, and completed a weekend sweep, on Saturday at Wings Event Center.

The Wings didn't wait long to open the scoring, with Lane Scheidl continuing his hot streak just 1:18 into the contest. Tyler Shattock forced his way around the right-side boards, finding Anton Cederholm at the point. Cederholm pushed the puck on net where Scheidl was camped out and deflected the puck past Nailers' netminder J.P. Anderson.

The Nailers attempted to exhibit their physical style but were called for a roughing penalty, giving the Wings a power play chance early in the first. On the man-advantage, Kalamazoo executed perfect passing along the boards to create space for Blomstrand at the top of the right circle, who flared a shot on net, that deflected off the skate of a Nailer defender and past Anderson.

Kalamazoo continued to exert their dominance over the Nailers through the first period and pushed their lead to 3-0. An offensive zone faceoff win from Shattock rolled to the tape of Blomstrand, who lifted an innocent wrister from the boards and beat Anderson. The strike ended the night for Anderson, who finished with eight saves on the 11 shots he faced, and was replaced by Brian Foster.

The fierce scoring tear continued for the Wings continued into the final seconds of the opening period, while Kalamazoo was operating on their second power play of the game. With just four seconds remaining in the frame, Eric Kattelus gave Kalamazoo a 4-0 lead, after following up a rebound behind the goal and ricocheting the puck off the back of Brian Foster, and into the goal.

The Nailers opened the second frame with jump in their game, but the Wings weathered the storm, and the middle stanza ended the same way the first did, with Kalamazoo taking a 4-0 lead to the dressing room.

Midway through the final frame, Wheeling found their first tally of the game, after Riley Brace raced down the right side, in on Joel Martin, and tucked the puck between the post and the skate of Martin.

Giving Wheeling nothing to build on, the Wings answered with a strike of their own to make it 5-1, late in the third period. Justin Taylor was gifted the puck along the left wing boards, pushed the puck towards the net and caught Foster out of position for the tally, to cap the scoring for the night.

Next: Kalamazoo @. Greenville- Thursday, March 31, 7:00 p.m., Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

Notes: The Wings finished the season series with the Nailers by posting a 5-2-1-0 record. Scheidl has seven goals in his last seven games. Blomstrand has posted two straight multi-goal games. Taylor registered his 100th goal as a Kalamazoo Wing.
