Grizzlies Add NHL Experience with Matt Pelech

West Valley City Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham announced today that the team has signed Matt Pelech.

Pelech, a first round pick of Calgary in 2005, brings 399 professional games to Utah, including 13 in the NHL with Calgary and San Jose. He is the older brother of Grizzlies leading scorer Michael Pelech.

"Any time you can add a guy with NHL experience you need to jump at it," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "Matt is a big physical presence, and will add confidence and stability to our D-core."

The 27-year-old Toronto native, has totaled one goal and three assists for four points and 38 penalty minutes in 13 NHL games with Calgary and San Jose. He has totaled 18 goals and 34 assists for 52 points and 1072 penalty minutes in 386 AHL games for the Flames and Sharks affiliates.

Pelech, who has played both forward and defense over the course of his career stands at six-foot-four and 230 pounds.

Utah is next in action Friday in Stockton at 8:30 p.m. and Saturday in Bakersfield at 8:00 p.m.

The Grizzlies are back home Monday, December 1 with Idaho at 7 p.m. for another Maverik Monday. Fans presenting their Maverik Adventure Club Card will get tickets buy one get one free.
