South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Duluth, GA - The South Carolina Stingrays (4-9-0-4) fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators (6-8-0-0) 4-1 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Tuesday evening to open a four-game series. Forward Wayne Simpson scored the lone tally for the Stingrays.
The Gladiators opened the scoring 3:08 into the contest when forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel buried his eighth goal of the season past Stingrays goaltender Brandon Anderson (L, 17 saves on 21 shots) on top of the goal crease. Simpson tied the contest on the power play at 9:40 snapping a one-time pass from forward Derek DeBlois past Gladiators netminder Mark Guggenberger (W, 23 saves on 24 shots) at the bottom of the left-wing circle. Moments later, the Gladiators reclaimed the lead as Daniel O'Donoghue settled a bouncing puck and placed it past an unsuspecting Anderson at 11:52.
The bounces continue to favor the Gladiators as forward Garry Nunn gave the Gladiators a two-goal advantage in the second period slipping a jumping puck over a sprawled out Anderson at 8:57. The Gladiators completed the game scoring at 11:14 as Captain Sean Berkstresser beat Anderson between the legs for his third goal of the season. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-8 on the power play four opportunities in the third period.
